SNAP reflects the best of America. 

By putting food on American dinner tables, it demonstrates our commitment to one another, our belief that everyone deserves access to healthy, affordable food. And making online SNAP permanent has the potential to solidify and deepen that commitment.

The Farm Bill before Congress includes a bipartisan provision worth celebrating: making SNAP online purchasing permanent.

Why it matters

1. It expands food access for the families who need it most. Many working parents, older adults, people with disabilities, and rural Americans have trouble getting to the grocery store. Online SNAP enables them to get healthy, affordable food delivered to their door.

2. It gives SNAP shoppers real choice. SNAP customers should have the same grocery options as everyone else.

   
   

3. It gives grocers the certainty to invest. Making online SNAP permanent empowers grocers, including independent and specialty grocers, to build online SNAP programs with confidence. It also opens a durable path for online-only retailers; expanding the market beyond traditional storefronts.

   
   

4. It fuels local economies. Grocery stores are community infrastructure: they create jobs, anchor commercial corridors, and help neighborhoods attract families and employers. Serving SNAP customers online means new revenue for independent stores, minority-owned businesses, and specialty retailers.

   
   

5. It supports American growers. When SNAP shoppers have more choices in where  they can purchase food, it supports American farms and ranches. More domestic produce, dairy, and meat find their way onto American dinner tables; supporting jobs across the country.

   
   

6. It's safer and more dignified. Benefit theft can wipe out a family’s entire grocery budget. To defend against it, online SNAP replaces skimmable magnetic-stripe cards with encrypted PINs and modern fraud protections. And it lets SNAP customers shop the way millions of Americans do: privately, conveniently, and without stigma.
